The copper-phosphorous alloy is self-fluxing (the phosphorous within the alloy imparts a metallurgical based self-fluxing capacity) and is used for a fast and easy method to join copper. With copper alloys (i.e. brass and bronze) additional flux is required to achieve a successful join.
